Email Notifications

Email notifications allow you to receive alerts via email when events occur in your Tape workflows. This guide explains how to set up and manage email notification destinations.

Adding an Email Destination

  1. Navigate to your webhook: From the dashboard, select your organization and click on the webhook you want to configure.

  2. Add Destination: Click the “Add Destination” button and select “Email” from the destination types.

  3. Configure Email Settings:

    • Email Addresses: Enter one or more email addresses, separated by commas.
    • Subject Prefix: (Optional) Add a prefix to all email subjects for this destination. For example: “[DEV]” or “[PRODUCTION]”.
  4. Save: Click “Save” to create the email destination.

Email Verification

For security reasons, all email addresses must be verified before they can receive notifications:

  1. After adding an email destination, verification emails are automatically sent to all recipients.
  2. Each recipient must click the verification link in the email to confirm their subscription.
  3. Once verified, the email status will update from “Pending Verification” to “Verified”.
  4. Only verified emails will receive notifications.

Email Format

Notification emails are designed to provide clear and actionable information:

  • Subject Line: Includes the notification type and relevant identifiers.
  • Content: Structured information about the event, including error messages and links.
  • Links: Direct links to relevant workflows and records in Tape.
  • Branding: Emails include your organization name and TapeAlert branding.

Managing Email Destinations

You can manage your email destinations at any time:

  • Add Recipients: Edit the destination to add more email addresses.
  • Remove Recipients: Remove email addresses that should no longer receive notifications.
  • Update Subject Prefix: Change the subject prefix to better categorize your emails.
  • Test Delivery: Use the “Test” button to send a test notification to all verified emails.
  • Delete Destination: Remove the entire email destination if no longer needed.

Best Practices

  • Limit Recipients: Only add email addresses that need to be notified to avoid notification fatigue.
  • Use Descriptive Subject Prefixes: Help recipients filter and identify emails with clear prefixes.
  • Create Multiple Destinations: Set up separate email destinations for different teams or purposes.
  • Regular Testing: Periodically test email delivery to ensure notifications are working correctly.

Troubleshooting

If you’re not receiving email notifications:

  1. Check Verification Status: Ensure all email addresses are verified.
  2. Check Spam/Junk Folders: The notifications might be filtered by your email provider.
  3. Whitelist the Sender: Add notifications@jmc.tools to your email whitelist.
  4. Test the Destination: Use the “Test” button to see if test emails are delivered.
  5. Check Logs: Review notification logs to see if there were delivery attempts or errors.
