Google Spaces Integration
Send notifications from Tape workflows directly to Google Spaces channels. This integration allows you to keep your team informed about workflow errors, failures, and other events directly in your Google Workspace communication channels.
Setting Up Google Spaces Integration
Step 1: Create a Webhook in Google Spaces
First, you need to create a webhook in Google Spaces:
- Open Google Chat and navigate to the Space where you want to receive notifications
- Click on the Space name at the top to open the Space details
- Click on “Apps & integrations”
- Scroll down to find “Webhooks” and click “Add webhooks”
- Enter a name for your webhook (e.g., “Tape Notifications”)
- Click “Save”
- Copy the webhook URL that appears - you’ll need this in the next step
Step 2: Add Google Spaces as a Destination
Now, add Google Spaces as a destination in TapeAlert:
- Navigate to your webhook in TapeAlert
- Click “Add Destination”
- Select “Google Spaces” as the destination type
- Paste the webhook URL you copied from Google Spaces
- Click “Save”
Testing Your Integration
After setting up the integration, you should test it to make sure it’s working correctly:
- On your destination page, click the “Test” button
- A test notification will be sent to your Google Space
- Verify that the notification appears in the Space
Notification Format
Google Spaces notifications are formatted as interactive cards that include:
- Title: Clear identification of the notification type
- Content: Relevant details about the event or error
- Workflow Information: Name of the affected workflow (when available)
- Error Details: For error notifications, the specific error message
- Action Buttons: Direct links to the related Tape workflow or record
Troubleshooting
If you’re having trouble with your Google Spaces integration:
Notifications Not Showing Up
- Verify that the webhook URL is correct and hasn’t expired
- Check if the Space still exists and you have permission to it
- Test the destination directly from TapeAlert
- Check your browser console and notification logs for errors
Note: Webhook URLs are stored in encrypted form for security reasons. This is why they appear as obfuscated text in the edit window and webhook detail card. The actual URL is properly decrypted when sending notifications.
Format Issues
- Google Spaces webhooks have certain message format limitations
- Very large notifications may be truncated
- Some special characters might not display correctly
Best Practices
- Targeted Notifications: Create specific Google Spaces for different types of notifications
- Descriptive Names: Use clear names for your destinations to easily identify them
- Limited Audience: Only add essential team members to Spaces receiving notifications
- Notification Filtering: Configure your webhook to only send relevant notifications to Google Spaces
