User Authentication

TapeAlert uses a secure, passwordless authentication system based on one-time verification codes sent via email. This approach provides strong security without requiring you to remember another password.

How Authentication Works

Login Process

  1. Enter Email: You provide your email address on the login screen
  2. Verification Code: The system sends a one-time verification code to your email
  3. Enter Code: You enter the verification code to prove ownership of the email
  4. Session Creation: Upon successful verification, a secure session is created
  5. Access Granted: You’re logged in and can access your dashboard

New User Registration

If you’re a new user:

  1. Enter Email: Provide your email address on the login screen
  2. Complete Profile: Fill in your name and organization details
  3. Verification Code: Receive and enter the verification code sent to your email
  4. Account Creation: Your account is created, and you’re logged in

Session Management

  • Session Duration: Login sessions remain active for 7 days by default
  • Multiple Devices: You can be logged in on multiple devices simultaneously
  • Session Termination: You can log out manually, or sessions expire automatically

Security Features

One-Time Verification Codes

  • Time-Limited: Verification codes expire after 5 minutes
  • Single-Use: Each code can only be used once
  • Rate Limiting: Multiple failed attempts will temporarily block verification requests
  • Secure Delivery: Codes are sent only to the email address on record

Partner-Based Access

  • Multi-Partner Support: Users can belong to multiple partner organizations
  • Role-Based Access: Different permissions based on your assigned role
  • Organization Isolation: Complete data separation between different partners

Troubleshooting

Not Receiving Verification Codes

If you don’t receive your verification code:

  1. Check Spam Folder: Look in your spam or junk mail folder
  2. Verify Email: Make sure you entered your email address correctly
  3. Wait a Few Minutes: Email delivery can sometimes be delayed
  4. Request New Code: Use the “Resend Code” option after waiting
  5. Contact Support: If problems persist, reach out to support

Session Expired

If your session expires unexpectedly:

  1. Log In Again: Simply log in again with your email
  2. Clear Cookies: In rare cases, clearing browser cookies may resolve issues
  3. Different Browser: Try using a different browser if problems persist

Partner Switching

If you belong to multiple partner organizations:

  1. Partner Selection: After login, you’ll see a list of partners you can access
  2. Choose Partner: Select the partner organization you want to work with
  3. Switch Partners: You can change partners later using the account menu
